Students don’t forget that report cards and refunds can be picked up at school on June 29, 9-3pm.
The SpeakOut Alberta Student Engagement Initiative is a program run by the Government of Alberta to encourage students to speak out about their school experiences. Students participate in a forum that allows them to describe their positive and negative feelings towards school in a safe and trusting atmosphere. A variety of cultural and academic backgrounds of students are used for the engagement imitative so that the government can gain a clearer picture of education in Alberta.
Any student in Alberta (or alumni) can participate in an interactive online forum to discuss issues surrounding education. The forum is online at the SpeakOut website, www.speakout.alberta.ca.
Each year, the Government hosts a SpeakOut Conference, allowing students to meet new people from throughout the province and share their views on Education. Congratulations to Helen W., Lok T., David C., Rob C. and Michael S. who, along with teacher Ms. McEvoy-Halston, represented Henry Wise Wood High School at the conference in Edmonton, Alberta May 14-16. They were part of a thirty-five student delegation from the Calgary Board of Education that attended the conference.
The ACCESS class participated in the school wide project, Agents for Africa. It was a year long project to raise awareness and celebrate the beauty of Africa. A major part of the school’s project was to raise money to donate to the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Watch our photostory to see how we celebrated the music and dance of Africa and raised over $500.
To support our unit on Africa, the ACCESS students with their work experience friends, took a trip to the Calgary Zoo in January. We were treated to an tour by the amazing Sarah Smith on lions to start our work around the movie, Born Free. Check out our photostory to see highlights of our trip and to see who else joined us.

Congratulations to the HWW field hockey team for winning the gold medal last night at the U of C. The girls coached by Ms. McCutcheon won their city championship game and clinched the title. Awesome work!
